Pop-up cinemas across the capital have become a major attraction in recent years. If you’ve already experienced one, you won’t need us to tell you why they’re so great. And if you haven’t, now is the time to immerse yourself in the magic.

London is blessed with a number of brilliantly unique pop-up cinemas that provide wonderful settings to enjoy the latest blockbusters and timeless classics with loved ones. Here are our favourites in the city right now.

1: Rivoli Pop-Up Cinema

Where: The Rivoli Ballroom, 350 Brockley Road, Crofton Park, SE4 2BY

Set inside the beautifully elegant Rivoli Ballroom, the pop-up cinema is set to show classics from Die Hard to Home Alone over the festive period before moving onto Valentine’s in early 2020. The authentic setting feels like stepping back into the golden age of cinema with old school tickets, music, and décor. Wonderful.

2. Lost Boys Pizza Pop-Up Cinema

When: Now – January 2020
Prices: From £30 (£35 for a sofa seat)

While £30 to watch a film may seem quite steep at a glance, the on-screen action is just a slice of what’s on offer. Guests will be treated with tasty pizza, including the classic Black Charcoal pizza, as well as bottomless drinks. Oh, and if you need a break from the festive cheer, they’re also showing Nightmare on Elm Street.

3. Wasted Christmas

Wasted Cinema at Bohemia Place isn’t only a budget-friendly pop-up cinema to explore a world of festive debauchery. It’s also an eco-friendly venue with an exceptionally friendly team. After the film (they’re showing Fight Club, Nightmare Before Christmas, and other classics) has finished, the pop-up bar is ideal for a drink.

4. CineBrunch

The luxurious Courthouse Hotel is a stunning setting for the bottomless brunch and prosecco while the cinema screening room itself is spacious. As well as festive flicks throughout December, they show themed films throughout the year, making it the ultimate weekend treat for a birthday or time with your spouse.

5. The Circus Bar

Where: The Circus Bar, Festival Terrace, Southbank Centre, SE1 8XX

A themed-bar at the Festival Terrace Southbank Centre has returned for the winter. You can settle down in a deck chair with a classic (Bridget Jones’ Diary, Dirty Dancing, etc.) film, popcorn, a burger, and a drink. Some of the films are free to watch while the food and drink is competitively priced too. Perfect.

6. FEST Camden

Where: FEST Camden, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8AH

FEST Camden brings classics like ELF, Frozen, and Bad Santa to the big screen in a cosy venue. All tickets include popcorn, but you can also pay for pizza and drinks. Whether it’s a family-friendly afternoon out, or a date night with your partner, the pop-up cinema is a great option this December.

7. Travelling Film Show

Where: The Shard, Floor 72, Joiner Street, London Bridge, SE1 9QU
When: 10th December (8pm)

The Travelling Film Show will be at the Shard on 10th December, showing Home Alone while providing guests with an opportunity to enjoy the View From the Shard experience too. The ticket also includes a mermaid gin and tonic and freshly popped popcorn, making it an ideal luxury treat in the pre-Christmas season.

8. Adventure Films, Campfires & Marshmallows

Where: The Round Chapel, Hackney, E5 0LY
When: 31st January (7pm)

For one night only, the iconic Hackney Round Chapel will be transformed into a cinema. Six of the best short films, which have won a combined 22 awards, will be on show while the cosy winter evening includes campfires, marshmallows, and the romantic surroundings of the beautiful venue itself.

9. Cinema Nights

The Ship hosts several pop-up cinema nights throughout the year. Their festive offering on Thursday 12th December will include a screening of The Holiday will also Mulled Gin on arrival, popcorn, snuggle blankets and a Martin Millers Gin top-up. The popular South West London pub is a winner.

10. The Curtain

Where: LIDO, THE CURTAIN HOTEL & MEMBERS CLUB, 45 Curtain Rd, EC2A 3PT

The Curtain is a pop-up cinema on the rooftop of one of London’s most exclusive clubs. It’ll be showing the likes of Muppet Christmas Carol, Die Hard and Home Alone while providing guests with stunning views of the city. If you’ve ever wanted to visit the venue, this is probably the cheapest way to do it too.

11. Film And Fizz with Curzon

Where: 1 Aldwych, WC2B 4BZ

The 30-seat screening room is a cosy environment that shows classic films every week. Nonetheless, the festive screenings of The Holiday, White Christmas, and It’s A Wonderful Life will inject an extra sense of magic. With a three-course dinner in Indigo or Eneko Basque Kitchen & Bar included, it’s a truly great experience.

12. The Luna Cinema

Where: Kensington Palace, Kensington and Chelsea, W8 4PX

During the lead up to Christmas, Kensington Palace’s Palace Pavilion will host the Luna pop-up cinema experience that allows guests to sit in their director’s chair with food, mulled wine, and a blanket to watch Love Actually or any of the other films being screened throughout the week. It’s an exclusive experience at an affordable price.

13. The Grand

The Grand’s pop-up cinema in the plush Clapham hotel will run several screenings during the festive build-up, including The Holiday and The Muppets before continuing their showcases in the early new year with The Lion King and others. The theatre space is cosy, exciting, and built for an evening of intense fun.

14. Secret Cinema

When: Now – February 2020

The immersive 3-hour experiences take you into the heart of the Stranger Things world. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll love the multi-layered screening experience and exploration of Hawkins. It’s a completely different activity to some of the others, but it is a once-in-a-lifetime event that’ll live long in your memory.
